Think Easter egg hunts are just for kids? Think again! Dogs have the perfect nose to sniff out these perennial holiday favorites.
The Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation (AARF) of Richmond, VA, hosted its Fifth Annual Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs last weekend to raise money for needy pets. To participate, there was a $10 entrance fee, and volunteers sold food and drinks. Last year, the hunt raised about $2,000 and about 125 dogs participated.
According to Alice Singh, the AARF volunteer who created the event, the hunt is more than just a chance to raise money, it’s a good way to expose people to AARF and get them out with their dogs in a friendly environment.
This was the second year that sibling pugs Fiona and Shreck participated. Their owners, Michael and Shannon Goodman of Wilkesboro, said that last year, they came away with one gift basket. This year, they collected 60 eggs, and in them were tickets for three gift baskets.
