Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Captain Olivia

Posted on October 21, 2012 | 1 comment

Captain Olivia and her Pirate pal, Scooby, have discovered the buried treasure! Olivia is a 9 year old, Chocolate Labrador Retriever. When not looting pirate ships for treats and toys, Olivia works hard as a Service Dog for her mom.  She is loyal and devoted like most dogs, but is also attentive to my medical needs. She can tell when I am not feeling well and is able to either alert me or someone else if I need assistance.  She has shown me what unconditional love truly is and brings so much happiness to my life. She has given me back my independence, and brings so much happiness and joy to my life and all those we encounter during our day.

Olivia's costume was handmade with love by her mom and grandmaw.  Olivia's costume is lightweight and non-constricting. She is able to walk and sit in it. Olivia really enjoyed the process of creating this costume. Each time we had to tailor it to fit her body she received a small treat. She has really "grown" to love it.  We started with a cardboard box, poly-fiber fill, contact paper, children's clothes from the local GoodWill Store, a Scooby Doo doll, and lots of embellishments from JoAnne Fabrics. The entire costume had to be altered to fit Olivia and her needs to be mobile. Scooby's arms were lengthened, clothes were cut and re-attached, and then altered again. It was an enjoyable and memorable experience my mom, Olivia and I will always have.  We took it step by step and managed to not get stressed out. We just had fun creating what we feel is the funniest and cutest halloween costume of 2012.

Posted on October 21, 2012 | 0 comments

This is Remy. He is a three year old Australian Shepherd. He is dressed in his homemade Captain America costume. Remy is the sweetest, most well behaved dog I've ever known, everyone who meets him instantly falls in love. He loves to make his people happy, and loves to be the center of attention, so wearing a costume is just another way for him to do that. He loves it.

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Fiona & Baylee

Posted on October 20, 2012 | 0 comments

This is a picture of my Boston Terrier's Fiona and Baylee. Fiona is a blue Boston and Baylee is a black and white boston. I made my Boston's costumes this year because I wanted them to be something original. I have never seen witches with boobs lol. It took me over a month to make the costumes, but it was worth it! My girls loved their costumes and just sat there and modeled their outfits while I took their pictures lol. My Bostons are my babies. I have been really sick the last five years...going through chemo, etc. I know I wouldn't be where I am today without my babies. When I dont' feel like smiling, they make me smile. When I don't feel like laughing, they have me laugh. When I really need a good cry...they lick my tears away. They give me a reason to get up and fight each and every day to my fullest. I want to be the best mommy to them as they have been my little girls. My Bostons are very special to me...I love them with all my heart and because of them I am here today.

Thanks for your time!

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Tito As Dracula

Posted on October 19, 2012 | 1 comment

Attached is a photo of my chihuahua, Tito, dressed as Count Dracula.  He is one of 6 pets in my household and although he may be the smallest, he is definitely in charge.  He's a total sweetheart.  We adopted him from a local, no-kill adoption center, Save-A-Pet.  His mom had been found abandoned in an empty apartment and was pregnant at the time.  He is a perfect Dracula because he is smooth, charming and in charge!

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Patrick The Dapper Dog

Posted on October 18, 2012 | 0 comments

This is Patrick. He is a 3 yr old yorkie who was rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri 3 months ago. He was my foster at first but then I fell in love with him and adopted him.

I think he is a dapper looking dog so I dressed him up as a "gentleman" for halloween. He has so much style and class that it just suited him.

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Bernie As Waldo

Posted on October 18, 2012 | 2 comments

Hi my name is Bernie,

i am a 7 month old St Bernard that loves walks, playing at the dog park and playing with all my toys.  Mom dressed me in this costume because she LOVED Where's Waldo as a kid and spent forever looking through the books.  I can be the most active dog at times and I can be the laziest dogs at times.  But overall I am a good puppy that loves attention and being around people.  And I love my costume, even the silly glasses and hat that is a little too small for my head.  Thank god next year I won't fit in it so I will have to be something else next year.  :)

Thanks for looking at my cute pic.

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Todd The Pirate

Posted on October 16, 2012 | 0 comments

This is Todd, an extremely sweet and lovable 4 year old shih tzu.  My family and I began fostering him through the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance in September and are now in the process of adopting him!!  He is completely blind and only has one eye.  We lovingly called him our little pirate and decided it would be a very cute Halloween costume! He is the sweetest little boy and we are in love with him! He has a wonderful temperament and we are hoping to certify him as a therapy dog.  He actually enjoys being dressed up as he knows he gets a lot of attention!

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Kiwi As Lucy

Posted on October 16, 2012 | 0 comments

Halloween Greetings!!  Attached is a photo of Kiwi, my 8 year old Pug.  This year, Kiwi channeled the wonderfully hilarious Lucille Ball and is recreating the classic episode entitled “Job Switching” where Lucy and Ethel go to work at the chocolate factory.  Too bad your contest uses still photos only as our conveyor belt actually works while a hidden boom box blares the Lucy theme show song thanks to my industrious husband.  You might remember, Lucy and Ethel were “forced” to eat the chocolates because they couldn’t wrap fast enough.  Rest assured, a Pug, particularly my little Kiwi, wouldn’t miss one treat on the conveyor belt and would hoover them up long before any hit the ground!!

Hope you enjoy the picture!!  Happy Halloween!

Dog Halloween Costume Contest: Pharaoh As Lion

Posted on October 16, 2012 | 2 comments

his is our 2 year old Great Dane "Pharaoh", wearing his hand made lion costume. Pharaoh is over 37" at the shoulder and is pushing 185 lbs, with some growing left to do.

He is a Blue Fawn-Merle (fawn, with Blue Merle mask) He possesses super star qualities that make him a local celebrity. He is a true gentle Giant. He has a wonderful balance of substance and grace. He is the most photogenic dog I have ever seen and he seems to always be posing as if to say "Look at me, look at me".

I was inspired to create the mane for him because he is Huge, the same color as a lion, and he always looks like a lion when he is laying down. Pharaoh LOVES wearing his costume because it draws even more attention, of which he loves to be the center. I think it will be his winter coat as well. Thank you for considering our Pharaoh for your costume contest. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Have a Great Dane day and a Happy Howl-o-ween!
